Your data

Deleting
your account.

Two ways to do it, no retention period you have to wait out, and nothing you have to argue with anybody about.

Applies to Emberknot for Android and iPhone.

In the app

Open Settings — the circle with your initial, top right of the home screen — then Account, then Delete account. It asks once to confirm, and then it is done. You do not need to contact us and there is nothing to approve.

If you cannot open the app

If you have uninstalled Emberknot, lost the device, or cannot sign in, email dantecorso@icloud.com from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We do it within 30 days and write back when it is done. We will ask you to confirm from that address and nothing else — never a password, and never a payment detail.

Deleting does not cancel Emberknot+

Deleting your account does not cancel Emberknot+ — cancel in App Store or Google Play settings. The store holds the subscription, not us, so we cannot cancel it for you, and it keeps renewing after your account is gone until you do. Cancel it first:

What is deleted

  • Your profile: the name you chose, your photo, and your settings.
  • Your own content in every pair you were ever in: your taps, notes, letters, answers, photos and voice notes, and the stored files behind them.
  • Your moods, and the place names on your check-ins, are blanked.
  • Your saved places, countdowns, Atlas journeys, the games you started, the Date Night wheels you made and your invites.
  • Any data export you had asked us to prepare.
  • Your push tokens, so no notification can reach a device after you have gone.
  • Your sign-in itself. The account is removed from our authentication system, not merely flagged — the same email can sign up again later as a new account.

Everything above happens when you ask. There is no thirty-day grace period holding a shadow copy of your account, and nothing is kept back in case you change your mind.

What is kept, and why

The shape of the thread you shared. A thread belongs to two people. Where your words and photos were, the other person sees a row saying something was removed — the same thing they would see for any deleted message. The content is gone; the gap is not. The alternative is letting one person erase the other's memories, and we are not willing to build that.

Purchase records. If you subscribed to Emberknot+, the record of the purchase is kept for tax and legal reasons. It holds a store reference and dates, never card details.

Safety reports. If someone reported a message, photo or voice note, that report — with its snapshot and any evidence copy of the file — still exists after you delete your account, for as long as we may need it to act on or the law requires us to keep it. A report that vanishes when the reported person deletes themselves is not a safety system.

Backups roll off on their own schedule within 30 days. They are not readable as a restore of one person's data and are never used to bring a deleted account back.

Disconnecting instead

If you only want to end a pairing, you do not need to delete anything. Disconnect ends it immediately and on both sides, and each of you keeps your own account. Neither of you can open the shared thread afterwards, and your former partner can no longer open your photos or voice notes.
