One minute, sound on
The tap, questions, games, letters, Date Night, your Ember and more. The whole app, in a minute.
Why a tap works
A text needs words and an answer. A tap needs neither. It says I'm thinking about you and then gets out of the way — which is why people send them at three in the afternoon on an ordinary Tuesday, and why getting one feels like being picked out of a whole day.
More than a button
The anniversary you always remember three days late. The trip you are both quietly counting down to. The photo only one of you has. Emberknot holds all of it in one place that belongs to the two of you — and nudges you in time to actually do something about it.
Mark the day you met once and it comes back every year — telling you both a week out, while you can still book something. Nobody has to be the one who remembers.
The trip you are both counting down to, on both phones, with the one line that matters — "booked under my name", "ferry at 08:40". Half the pleasure of going somewhere is the waiting.
Press and hold anything they sent — a photo, a note, a tap on a bad day — and it is kept. A year in, you have a record of the two of you that nobody else has read.
One tap when you are home, at work, landed. The small reassurance that stops somebody wondering. No GPS is involved — the app never asks for your location and has no code that reads it.
Before you call, you already know whether it was a great one or a rough one. Set yours in a second, and it clears itself — a bad Monday should not still be showing on Thursday.
Study, work or wind down in the same half hour from different cities — on your Lock Screen, counting the taps you send each other while it runs. As close to the same room as two phones get.
Everywhere you already areEmberknot+
Their mood is simply there — on your Home Screen, your Lock Screen, your watch face — changing through the day without either of you opening anything. You glance at your phone for some other reason and find out they are having a rough one.
That is part of Emberknot+, along with photos, Questions, Games and every tap — and one subscription covers both of you, not one each. The everyday app is free: four taps, notes, moods, Today's question, an open-when letter, a countdown, Date Night, Cup Pong, and your first photo and voice note.
Play together
A game you finish over three days, a wheel that picks dinner, a question with an answer you did not expect.
Twenty-two of them, from Chess to Rummy, a turn at a time — Cup Pong is free. Make your move whenever; they get a nudge when it is theirs.
See the gamesFill the wheels together, then let them decide. For nights in, nights out, and nights on a video call.
Spin the wheelsAsk them something with two or three answers to pick from. They can always type their own instead.
Holiday themesEmberknot+
Eight animated themes, from New Year's to birthdays. Set one any time of year and it changes for both of you, like every theme. Each has its own gentle background and its own burst when you tap — press a heart below to see it.
A gentle reminder when one is coming up — ahead of each holiday, and three days before any birthday you have saved in your dates. Both of you get it, and one switch in Settings turns them off.
iPhone & Android
One of you on an iPhone, the other on Android? That is completely fine. Taps, notes, photos, letters, Today's question, games and Date Night all go back and forth between the two, exactly as if you had the same phone. Nobody has to switch.

The promise
Nothing you put here is for an audience, because there is no audience. There is no way to find anyone in Emberknot — no search, no suggestions, no uploading your contacts. The only way in is a short code that somebody hands you on purpose.
Who makes it
I built Emberknot for my girlfriend and me. Now I'm sharing it with other couples who want a little space of their own.
Getting started is three steps: each of you makes your own account, one of you invites the other, and you start sharing.
